Fads and Trends

Okay so while I was working on this I realized that it is really hard to recognize fads when you're in them. How do you know for sure that what your saying is a fad will never become a trend, for example when rap music first started everyone thought it would be a fad, but It became a trend. Just something to think about.

I work with kids at the Prescott YMCA and the biggest fad for them right now is Bey Blades. It’s a toy that is sort of like a top. They boys at my work constantly fight over Bey blades, who has the best, who has the fastest. They also race the Bey Blades in these stadiums. This is a huge fad with mainly young boys. Here is a video of young boys playing with bey blades, so you can see what there all about :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1DhehDIeAg

A fad that is popular right now is girls wearing feathers in their hair. I have seen so many girls doing this, young and old. Even though I thought this fad was stupid when I first saw it, and teased my friend for having one, now I find myself wanting one! I guess she was ahead of the curb

Skinny jeans are a fad. Though many fashions die out and come back, skinny jeans are currently on a downward spiral as far as being in style goes.

Singers using auto tune is a fad. Auto tune is pretty popular with singers who can't really sing, and even for those who can, but in my opinion the public will grow tired of not hearing real talent, which is always in style.

Social Networking is for sure a trend, even though which social networking site you use my be a fad.

skyping and face time are trends. The fact that we now have the ability to communicate face to face with family and friends and people from anywhere will never get old. Even more interestingly there is a new website that is gaining in popularity where you can chat via web cam with complete strangers from all over the world! The website is called ChatRoulette. Here is more information about this new craze. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatroulette

Pixar style 3d animation is a trend an example of this would be Toys Story and Cars I don’t think animation will ever go back to the way it was.

Streaming Videos online is a trend. It is more convenient to have all of  the t.v shows and videos available to you within a few seconds from the comfort of your own home. I think that this is defiantly a trend that will only grow more popular.

Alternative fuel cars are a trend. Having a car that is better for the environment and save you money at the same time will never be out of style.

I phone is a trend, at first I was going to put the I phone as a fad but then I realized that my dad has had an I phone for almost six years with that being said I defiantly think it’s a trend.

Like I said earlier I had a hard time distinguishing between current fads and whether they would become future trends or not, but hopefully I worked it out, let me know :)

Alien Tour Guide

Greetings, Mister or Miss Alien! Welcome to Earth! Since you happened to crash-land at Yavapai College we'd like to show you our College Bookstore.

Why do we have a bookstore? So we can buy books!

Why do we want books? Because it's an important part of our education process to use books! Notice the books are arranged in groups, by the subject!

Why? Because some people think the human mind absorbs information more quickly if it is already organized, and it is easier to design an educational program by subject and thereby not miss anything important. In the bookstore, these books are organized by subject so they are easy to locate. For instance, here is a book on piloting a spacecraft. Perhaps you'll find it useful.

The store also has T-shirts and other merchandise, neatly emblazoned with the Yavapai College school logo.

Why? Because we feel pride about the school we attend and we want to wear it to show others that we value a good education. We might also meet new people based on the fact that they also go to our school.

Why?

As a society, we understand the value of a good first impression. Wearing a shirt with a logo is a potent first impression. A college logo lets others know you value a good education. The people that like the logo are people who also value many of the same things. And we feel more comfortable with people who share the same interests.

Well I can see, Mr Alien, that you have a lot to think about. Why don't we just head on out of here and see if we can't call a tow truck for your ship.
